Windows Software SIG meeting
Microsoft Home Server
Don Heinsen and Kevin Lynn
Don Heinsen, CompNet Services, will demonstrate a Microsoft Windows Home Server using an HP MediaSmart Server EX495 (http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/mediasmart-server) that he can access from anywhere on the internet. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/default.mspx)
Microsoft Windows Home Server is normally sold as a complete system by major vendors, but the software is available to build your own box. It is designed to be a server, not a workstation or everyday computer. Don uses it to store programs, drivers, photos, video and music that can be accessed from any internet connected machine. Kevin Lynn will bring in his "build-it-yourself" Windows Home Server to show the plain version.
As usual, there will be a general session at the beginning of the meeting to discuss possible solutions to member questions.
