The Virtual World of Linux
Bob White and Brad Youngman

Linux logo

Bob and Brad  will demonstrate Linux and Windows from 2 approaches. The goal is to show you ways to try Linux, where to download distributions (they're mostly FREE!), and what to watch out for during setup. Bob, a primarily Linux user since 1994, will show a dual boot system, and then concentrate on native Linux with Windows running in a virtual machine emulator. Brad, a Linux user since his retirement from Stanford University, will demonstrate a native Linux system with a variety of Window and other Linux systems all running in emulation on a new laptop.

A number of the Linux distributions and tips on how to install them are described in this handout.

Bob White is an alumnus of Sun Microsystems and has experience with the Solaris version of Unix, and concentrates currently on Linux systems

Brad Youngman assists users and repairs comuters at the Computer Lab at the Sunnyvale Senior Center which provides users both Windows and Linux machines. He has wide experience of Windows users needs and has acquaintance with a wide assortment of Linux distributions.
