Photo Microscopy
Robert Rewick

"Bob Rewick, a physical-inorganic chemist, a professional photographer, an author, a
beekeeper, and a photography judge, will give a presentation on photo microscopy, i.e. taking
pictures through a microscope.

The subjects he chooses are not biological specimens, but chemical materials when viewed
through cross-polarized light in a microscope, produce a myriad of abstract colored shapes,
patterns and forms not usually seen in the real world, which are not produced by photoshop
manipulations. He has published an article on this subject in Camera and Darkroom, when the
Journal was in existence.

Fiber for Communities
Robert B. Harrington

In February 2010, Google announced its Fiber for Communities initiative. The City of Palo Alto, together with 1,100 other municipal and government entities, applied to Google by its March 26 deadline. Palo Alto’s chances in the Google Fiber competition will be the focus of Bob’s remarks to PA-SPAUG on July 14.

Born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bob is a Stanford University alum.  Bob’s adult life has been spent entirely in Santa Clara County working for just three companies, Pacific Telephone, Transamerica Title, and finally a 25-year investment career with Dean Witter (now Morgan Stanley).

About a decade ago, Bob became interested in a proposed Fiber to the Home (FTTH) neighborhood trial in Palo Alto. Bob’s household was among the 65 residential participants in the FTTH trial from 2001 through 2005. Because of that involvement, since 2001 Bob has been a community advisor to the utility, then in 2007 was appointed (together with two others) Advisor to the Mayor – Broadband.

Building Content for Your Drupal Website: Content Types, CCK and Views
Maurice Green, SVUGA Webmaster

Drupal comes with several content types (story, page and blog) as part of core. Contributed modules can provide additional types such as book, classified ad and event. For those who require more specialized content forms there is the Content Creation Kit (CCK) which allows the webmaster to build new types from a variety of field types. Up through Drupal 6.x, CCK was a contributed module. With the upcoming Drupal 7 it will be included in core as Fields.  Finally, to customize the presentation of these various content types there is the Views module which creates customized SQL queries to the database to present the information in a variety of displays.
